One Record Collector's Remorse

From a discussion in a classical music newsgroup about the places most large music collections end up (and it ain't pretty):

I have a collection that numbers about 10,000 LP's and 10,000 CDs and about another thousand 78s and many tapes of various formats. About 15 years ago when people would ooh and ah about the size of the collection, I'd tell them within my lifetime, you'll be able to fit every note of this collection in something the size of a shoebox. It took less time than I expected. Another comment I have made through the years when people would say the collection will be a legacy to leave to my kids, I would say that yes, someday this will all be my son's to haul out to the dumpster.
