Telluride Bluegrass Festival 2014 (June)

It's the greatest bluegrass festival, heck, maybe festival period, in the world. The music's spectacular and encourages unique combinations, since it brings so many diverse and peerless artists together. A bluegrass festival in name only, the music it covers is all over the map (Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Brandi Carlisle, Steve Winwood, Brooklyn Rider String Quartet). And the setting doesn't hurt -- a box canyon at 9000 feet surrounded by snow-capped peaks in the San Juan range of the Colorado Rockies. Karen and I were there in 1987, '88 and '89, and after 25 years of life intervening, we finally made it back, this time with Jake and some close friends. It has changed a bit, become more of a real resort town with an upscale feel and more shops, but still gorgeous, while the festival is still pretty much the same as it was. We were not disappointed.
